WWOOFING

WWOOFing (used to stand for "Willing Worker's on Organic Farms" -but now has become "World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms") can be a fantastic experience for both volunteers and hosts, it’s the original working holiday. Please make sure that you register with WWOOFer’s International as without your subscription, the organisation will collapse.

We hope that our WWOOFer’s will give us 6 hours work a day (you chose the hours), any 5 days of the week. But feel free to exceed these guidelines! Cooking and cleaning can also count towards your hours.

Organic food production is only a small part of the quest for a more sustainable lifestyle so please assist us with general resource conservation:

  • Minimize water use
  • Rain water for animals
  • Don’t shower everyday
  • Don’t flush the loo unless it stinks,
the septic tank is not a bottomless pit !!
  • Recycle washing up water on the garden
  • Minimize electricity use
  • Turn off lights and other appliances
  • Don’t waste hot water
  • Minimize fuel use
  • Only use the gas heater when in the caravan AND
    awake (carbon monoxide can kill!!)
  • Keep the wood fires shut down when in use
  • Recycle as much as possible
  • Practically everything (and everyone)
    gets a second chance!

Please make use of all the facilities in the house e.g T.V., bathroom, books, (Sam says ‘Playstation’), cooking facilities and washing machine. However we ask that you avoid the bathroom and kitchen between 8am and 9am as the boys need to get ready for school (best avoided I can tell you!)

We will try to devise some sort of cooking rota for the evening meal, if your skills or enthusiasm allows (we’re not fussy – a break from cooking makes up for the most minimal culinary aptitude). If your not actually cooking, please assist in the preparation and washing up.

We have a list of on-going projects and daily chores but if you have a particular skill or yearning to try a certain task not on the list, please don’t hesitate to suggest it and we will see what we can do.

Most importantly,

HAVE FUN
