THE ACCOMMODATION
This beautiful old house was built during the reign of King Louis XIV in 1694. The local builder of great repute, Monsieur Derrien, apparently reclaimed the two fantastic granite fireplaces from a derelict 13th century chateau.Since that time it has changed very little.
So when we bought it in 2000 we had to be careful not to destroy this character whilst incorporating all the modern conveniences we have all come to expect. The farmhouse now provides very spacious living accommodation over three floors sleeping 9 people with ease.

The Kitchen
The large kitchen/dining room is dominated by a granite fireplace now housing
the wood-burning range, next to which is the full-size gas cooker and microwave.
The kitchen is fully equipped to prepare and serve the most elaborate meals (if
you really must!). There's plenty of work-tops and a large farmhouse table
provides ample room to seat all the family and friends.
Behind the kitchen is a utility room with washing machine, sink and a toilet. Upstairs is the bathroom with both full-size bath and separate shower cubicle, there's also a toilet and basin.

The Living Room
A truly rustic half-spiral, open galleried stairway leads to a spacious, airy sitting room with a huge granite fireplace and UK satellite TV and DVD player. There is also a massive collection of books and magazines for both children and adults as well as lots of board-games etc.

The Gardens
Le Coty is set within an acre of gardens with plenty of room for ball games and bikes (of which we have quite a few to borrow, including a baby seat). There is also a 14' trampoline and a set of swings and rope ladders in the playing field. There is also a playhouse and covered area with a large paddling pool, sand pit and slide. There's even a 1948 David Brown tractor to play on. For the older ones there's even a full size 'half-pipe' - if they're skaterboarders they'll know what we mean! There is the most fantastic view south down to the river Ellez from the terrace with BBQ, eating area and teak table and chairs.

Guests are welcome to explore the rest of the farm and vegetable gardens and get to know the motley crew of animals we keep. There are many opportunities for children to help to feed the animals and have a ride or two on our 1963 Renault tractor.

We have large organic vegetable and fruit gardens which provides an ample
selection of fresh produce available for you to buy (see
Produce List
) including eggs, milk, cheese, ice-cream, vegetables, soft fruits and meat. We can also provide
Welcome Packs for your arrival on request.
We are living on the other side of the farmyard; far enough to give you
privacy but near enough should you need any assistance or advice. We have plenty
of extra equipment such as cots, buggies, and bikes free to
borrow.
The farm is a 25-acre small-holding, comprised of many tiny, hedged fields,
half of which are currently ‘wild-life havens’. We have restored some of
the old hay meadows and river pasture to provide ideal habitats for a rich
flora and fauna.
The Ellez river runs to the south of the farm providing many beautiful
picnic spots. During the summer it’s a slow-flowing, shallow river with
a gravel bed ideal for paddling.
Our primary aim is to produce sufficient high quality, organic food
to feed both ourselves and our guests. We keep a diverse variety of
free-range poultry, waterfowl, rabbits, Jersey cows, pigs and sheep, all of
which seem to appreciate the attentions of our summer guests. We also have some
less productive animals including 3 dogs, 3 cats, a donkey and a miniture Vietnamese pot-bellied pig!
In 2002, we planted ˝ an acre of raspberries. We sell them fresh at the local markets
whilst trying to establish a ‘Pick Your Own’ business. What doesn't get sold is made
into delicious jam (our most popular product!).
We believe that Le Coty will offer you more than just a holiday cottage; it's
also a rare opportunity to get a glimpse of life on an organic small-holding in
a place so peaceful that, at night, all you can hear are the crickets. One
family has loved it so much that they are coming back for a fourth year in
succession!!
